Slovenia stretches between the Alps, the Adriatic and the Pannonian Plain and such geographical diversity results in several different types of climates: continental, Alpine and Mediterranean. The continental and Mediterranean climates offer a good environment for the production of different crops, e.g. vegetables, legumes, fruits and vine. The organizing committee of the 3rd Conference of the International Working Group on Legume and Vegetable Viruses (IWGLVV) is happy to invite you to Slovenia. This will also be an excellent opportunity to visit and explore Slovenian diversity.
The diversity and wide host range of legume and vegetable viruses constitute a continuous threat to the crop industry. In addition, mixed infections with other pathogens like viroids and phytoplasmas are often observed. Natural genetic variability of viruses and recombination events between distinct viruses contribute to development of new virus variants. Those often have new properties; infecting new hosts in new environments and causing more severe symptoms. New virus variants represent a challenge for virus disease management, vector management, plant breeding and plant-virus interaction studies. To achieve control over the diseases, constant development of sensitive, reliable and validated detection methods is needed.
With your contributions the organizing committee would like to cover all these aspects in the conference programme. The conference will be invigorated by the traditional technical excursion to the Slovenian Karst region.
Scientists, industrialists, growers, plant health officers and students are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting. The official language of this symposium will be English.
The organizers anticipate attendance of delegates of 9th International Congress of Plant Pathology in Turin, Italy. In order to optimise planning and logistics potential participants are strongly encouraged to register as soon as possible and declare if they plan to attend both conferences. In the case of sufficient number of interested people, transport from Ljubljana to Turin will be organized.
The conference is organized by the International Working Group on Legume and Vegetable Viruses (IWGLVV). The Group's main aim is to encourage, promote and improve the direct contact and cooperation among researchers working on viruses and virus diseases of legumes and vegetables.
